Northeast Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (NEAGEP)



NEAGEP is a consortium composed of 15 universities and colleges (including five minority-serving institutions), whose goal is to increase the recruitment and retention of underrepresented U.S. graduate students, via the inter-alliance collaborations.



  • Provide forum for NEAGEP students to engage through meetings, webinars, etc.
  • Host regular meetings, including an annual workshop/conference
  • Host faculty research seminars across NEAGEP institutions
  • Host open houses for faculty to visit different institutions
  • Develop faculty-to-faculty exchanges
  • Partner with offices across campus to coordinate workshops and informational sessions focused on diversity-based issues
  • Facilitate mentoring and networking experiences between UNH minority graduate and undergraduate students
  • Develop best practices for mentoring and retention
  • Utilize alumni with shared areas of interest

Major goals for NEAGEP underpin much of the member institution's overall diversity efforts, including the following:

  • Increase recruitment and retention of underrepresented U.S. graduate students
  • Increase organization and networking between institutions to provide more organizational structure & consistency and develop peer-to-peer relationships between students, faculty and staff
  • Address fundamental gaps in research and literature concerning diversity in the STEM PhD populations
  • Leverage and build upon existing activities at member institutions to offer professional development workshops and seminars for students, faculty and staff
  • Create more inter-alliance recruitment opportunities in order to increase the field of graduate program options for students and ease their admissions process & transition into graduate studies
  • Seek funding for alliance-wide initiatives and financial assistance to students
