Ashby Kinch is a Professor of English and currently serves as Vice Provost and Dean of the Graduate School. Before coming to UNH, he taught for 21 years at the University of Montana, the last 7 of which were in graduate education administration, where he has done work in a range of areas: graduate student mental health support, professional development, and DEI support. He is a medievalist by training with research interests in a range of areas: Chaucer, late medieval translation, visual culture, and Anglo-French literary exchange. He has published widely in death studies, including a book-length study of the late medieval art and literature of dying, Imago Mortis: Mediating Images of Death in late Medieval Culture, published by Brill in 2013. He is the editor of the medieval volume (800-1450) in the Bloomsbury series A Cultural History of Death, published in January, 2024.
